Welcome to Mère Florals!! I’m Joanne and I am so glad you’re here.

Mère Florals began in 2022, but the seeds of this urban flower farm were sown long before that. My love of gardens runs deep - it’s something that was passed down from my grandfather and mother. Some of my happiest memories are getting my hands dirty in the soil, and watching tiny seeds grow into something beautiful and full of life. There is such a wonder in it isn’t there? That something so small can become something beautiful and useful.

When I’m in the garden, I feel grounded and present. It’s a space where I can lose myself in the rhythm of nature, it fills me with so much joy. I am also a midwife and there is something akin between midwifery and flower growing that feels like a natural extension of who I am. For me, flowers and midwifery have been callings, they both are about nurturing life, being patient and marvelling at the beauty of creating. Both bring me purpose and fulfilment and are part of who I am.

I love being able to share flowers and to be part of the slow flower movement that helps to bring field-to-vase locally and sustainably grown cut flowers that flourish within the Ottawa community.
